A kitchen remodel is the biggest single project most homeowners take on, and it is the one where planning matters most. Cabinets are ordered weeks ahead, plumbing and electrical have to be right before the walls close, and the room you cook in every day is out of service until it's done. Our job is to make that stretch as short and predictable as possible.
Kitchens are the core of our work at Crystal Remodeling. We've remodeled kitchens in homes across HQ City and nearby communities, from small galley kitchens to open-plan remodels where walls come down. The approach below is the same whatever the size.
Kitchen remodeling services
Most projects combine several of these. Each page goes into what's involved, what it costs and what to decide.
- Full Kitchen Remodel: Down to the studs and back: layout, plumbing, electrical, cabinets, counters, floors and lighting.
- Custom Kitchen Cabinets: Custom and semi-custom cabinets built to your room, plus refacing and painting when the boxes are sound.
- Countertops: Quartz, granite and solid-surface counters, templated and installed by our own crew.
- Kitchen Islands: New or expanded islands with seating, storage, prep sinks and the power to run them.
- Backsplash & Tile: Tile backsplashes set flat, square and sealed, from simple subway to full-height slab.
- Kitchen Design & Layout: Measured drawings, layout options and material selections before anything is ordered.
- Small & Galley Kitchens: Galley and compact kitchens that gain storage and counter space without moving walls.
- Luxury Kitchens: Custom millwork, professional appliances and detail work for a kitchen built to last decades.
What a kitchen remodel with us includes
Every kitchen proposal covers the full scope, so nothing turns up later as an extra:
- Design: measured drawings, layout options and a selections list covering cabinets, counters, tile, fixtures, hardware and lighting.
- Permits and inspections: we apply, schedule inspectors and meet them on site.
- Demolition and protection: dust walls, floor protection, daily cleanup and debris removal.
- Rough trades: licensed plumbing and electrical, ventilation for the range hood, and framing for any wall changes.
- Finishes: drywall, flooring, cabinets, countertops, backsplash, paint and trim.
- Appliance installation and a final walkthrough before you sign off.
How a kitchen remodel works
- Consultation. We come out, measure the room, look at the plumbing and electrical, and talk through how you use the kitchen and what you want to spend.
- Design and selections. We draw the new layout and help you pick cabinets, counters and finishes. You can see and touch samples at our design center.
- Fixed-price proposal. You get one written price with the full scope and schedule. Long-lead items like cabinets are ordered once you sign.
- Construction. Demolition, rough-in, inspections, then cabinets, counters and finishes. Your project lead sends a weekly update.
- Walkthrough. We go through every drawer, outlet and seam with you and fix anything on the punch list before the final invoice.
More detail is on how we work.
How much does a kitchen remodel cost in HQ City?
Cost is driven by three decisions more than anything else: whether the layout changes (moving a sink or range means moving plumbing, gas and venting), the cabinet line, and the countertop material. Here's how our projects typically break down:
| Project level | What's included | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh | Same layout. Cabinet refacing or painting, new counters, backsplash, sink and lighting. | $XX,000–$XX,000 |
| Full remodel | New semi-custom cabinets, quartz counters, flooring, lighting, appliance install, minor layout changes. | $XX,000–$XX,000 |
| Custom or open plan | Wall removal or major layout change, custom cabinetry, island with seating, upgraded appliances. | $XXX,000+ |

How long does it take?
Plan on two phases. Design, selections and ordering usually take 4 to 8 weeks, set mostly by cabinet lead times. Construction for a full remodel runs 6 to 10 weeks. We don't start demolition until cabinets and counters are confirmed, so your kitchen is never torn out while we wait on materials.
Choosing materials that hold up
Cabinets
Cabinets are usually the largest line item. Plywood boxes, solid-wood doors and full-extension soft-close drawers are what separate a kitchen that still works in 20 years from one that sags in five. If your existing boxes are solid, refacing or painting can save a large share of the cost. More on custom kitchen cabinets.
Countertops
Quartz is the most popular choice in our projects because it doesn't need sealing and resists stains. Granite has more natural variation and handles heat better. We compare them in quartz vs. granite.
Lighting and power
Older kitchens rarely have enough circuits for today's appliances, or enough light at the counter. Under-cabinet lighting, recessed cans on dimmers and dedicated appliance circuits are worth planning in from the start, while the walls are open.
Planning a layout that works
A good kitchen layout comes down to how people move through it. Before we draw cabinets, we ask how many people cook at once, where groceries come in, where kids do homework, and where guests end up standing during a party.
Work zones
Instead of a single triangle between sink, range and refrigerator, we plan zones: a prep zone with the most open counter next to the sink, a cooking zone with pots and utensils within reach of the range, a cleanup zone with the dishwasher beside the sink and trash pullout, and a drinks or snack zone out of the cook's way.
Clearances
Aisles of about 42 inches suit one cook; 48 inches works better for two. An island needs room for stools to pull out without blocking the walkway. These numbers decide whether an island fits at all, so we measure before anyone falls in love with a design.
Storage
Deep drawers beat lower doors for pots and dishes. Tall pantry pullouts, a dedicated spice drawer near the range, and an appliance garage for the mixer and toaster keep counters clear. We plan storage item by item from what you own now.
Mistakes we help clients avoid
- Choosing appliances last. Cabinet openings are built to exact appliance sizes, so models need to be chosen before cabinets are ordered.
- Too few outlets. Islands, appliance garages and charging spots all need power planned in from the start.
- Skipping the hood. A properly sized, outside-vented range hood protects cabinets and keeps the house from smelling like dinner.
- Forgetting the trim and lighting budget. Under-cabinet lights, crown moulding and hardware add up; we include them in the proposal so there are no surprises.
Ventilation that works
A range hood is one of the most overlooked parts of a kitchen remodel. It should be vented to the outside, sized to the range, and wide enough to cover the cooking surface. A hood that recirculates or vents into the attic leaves grease on the cabinets and moisture in the house. We plan the duct route early, because it affects the cabinets, the ceiling and sometimes the exterior wall.
